“يعتبر البرقوق أو خوخ الدب، الذي يبلغ ارتفاعه من 4 إلى 8 أمتار، سلفًا بريًا لشجرة الخوخ. وينتج في الصيف برقوقًا أصفر أو أحمر أرجوانيًا يبلغ عرضه من 2 إلى 3 سم. يكون طعم الثمار حامضًا عندما تكون غير ناضجة، ولكن تصبح حلوة لفترة وجيزة قبل أن تنضج وتتحلل.  في أوائل الربيع، حوالي شهري آذار ونيسان، تزهر الشجرة، وتغطي الزهور البيضاء الوفيرة الأغصان العارية قبل ظهور الأوراق الخضراء، وعندما تتكشف، يسهل التعرف على الأوراق . ويواصل القرويون ممارسة تطعيم الأشجار البرية بأصناف محسنة.

“The Bear Plum, 4 to 8 meters high, is a wild ancestor of the domesticated Plum tree. In the summer it produces yellow or purplish-red plums that are 2 to 3 centimeters across. The fruits taste sour when they are immature, but become sweet for a brief period before they overripen and decompose.  Early in spring, around March and April, the tree blooms, and abundant, white flowers cover the bare branches before the green leaves appear. When they unfold, the leaves are easy to identify.  Villagers continue the practice of grafting wild trees with improved cultivars.
